Witcher 3 Destination Skellige Quest Walkthrough

  • Find a boat headed to Skellige.
  • Look for the ship’s captain at the Golden Sturgeon.
  • Pay Captain Wolverstone the requested amount to sail to Skellige.
  • Defeat the pirates.
  • Go to the port near Kaer Trolde.
  • Teach Steingrim a lesson. (optional)

Head to Novigrad and look for three highlighted areas on your map. Speak with people at all three highlighted locations to figure out that you need to find Captain Wolverstone at the Golden Sturgeon. Go inside the Golden Sturgeon and speak with Captain Wolverstone. You need to pay him 1,000 crowns before he'll take you to Skellige, and there's no way around this. However, you'll get this money back so don't worry about it too much.

After a short cut scene pirates invade the ship. Help the crew by taking out as many pirates as you can then watch another cut scene as the ship hits an iceberg. After another cut scene you exchange some dialogue with Steingrim. It's recommended that you be as pleasant as possible during the conversation, but if you're rude it will turn to a fist fight. So long as you win the fight and don't pull out your sword, everything will still be fine. If you draw your sword you'll have to kill Steingrim and he won't be available during the secondary quest, King's Gambit.

Before you head off, search the area and loot the shipwreck. Captain Wolverstone's body is behind the ship. Loot it receive the 1,000 crowns you paid him earlier. When you're ready to go, follow the path to the east as it curves to the north, then head west just before you reach Kaer Tolde. Head to the west side of the harbor here for another cut scene and a conversation with Yennefer to complete the quest.

  • Go to Yennefer’s rooms and put on formal attire. (optional)
  • Meet Yennefer at the entrance to Kaer Trolde Keep.
  • Go with Yennefer to the wake inside Kaer Trolde.
  • Beat Cerys to the top of the mountain. (optional)

Continue down the path toward the buildings as you make your way to Yennefer's room. Activate your Witcher Senses and search the room for your clothes, which are located in a chest in the corner. Ideally you want to wear something that's black and white. You can choose one of the clothing options in the room or even wear your previous attire from the main quest, Imperial Audience early in the game. You can wear whatever you wish, but it's recommended to wear black and white to make Yennefer happy.

Head to the next waypoint on the map for a lengthy cut scene. During the cut scene you are challenged to a race. If you accept (you don't have to) you must race against Cerys to the top of the mountain. If you choose to race, follow the lit torches as you stick to the race course and don't venture off the path. If you wish to win the race, don't cut corners and jump to avoid the deeper snow sections.

  • Talk to Yennefer in private.
  • Go to Ermion’s workshop.
  • Explore the mysterious room using your Witcher Senses.

Follow Yennefer around the hall and speak with the four parties at the exclamation points on the map. You can make a few decisions during these conversations, such as toasting or getting into a fist fight. None of these decisions have a significant impact on the outcome of the quest, so make any choices you like.

After the conversations head downstairs and continue to follow Yennefer. Stay behind her as she walks to avoid getting any unwanted attention from the guards. When you reach your destination head over to the window, go outside to the other balcony to find another window, then open it to get back inside. Continue down the stairs then use your Witcher Senses to search the room below.

  • Defeat the aggressive beasts.
  • Go to Ermion’s workshop (continued).
  • Find the Mask of Uroboros in Ermion’s workshop.
  • Explore the secret chamber using your Witcher Senses.
  • Kill the earth elemental.
  • Look around for a way to escape from the trap.

When you find the side door head inside to fight off a bevy of beasts. Continue through the door to the west and down the stairs into the laboratory. Activate your Witcher Senses and search the lab. Inspect every object that appears in red in order to continue the quest.

Once you've examined all of the objects, head down the stairs and into the cavern below. Here you face off against an Earth Elemental that can be tough to deal with if you're not prepared for the battle. The Quen Sign magic is a good tool to use during this battle to avoid taking damage. If you have issues fighting the Earth Elemental, activate the Quen Sign magic then attack once and jump away. If you get hit, activate the Quen Sign magic again and repeat this technique until the enemy goes down. It takes a bit longer than a full frontal assault, but it's a much safer battle strategy if you're struggling with this fight.

As soon as the enemy is down, the room fills with gas. You don't have a lot of time, so quickly collect the loot in the room, then tell Yennefer that you want to kiss her if you wish to engage in more romantic escapades once you get out of the room. Tell Yennefer you wouldn't mind watching to begin your duties as a man. If you have no interest in such things, exclaim that you're going to choke and die to avoid any romantic encounters with Yennefer.

  • Follow Yennefer.
  • Use the Mask of Uroboros.

Sail to the Redgill village near the eastern coast of Ard Skellig. Head up the stairs to reach the Druid camp and find Yennefer. After some dialogue make your way down the hill until you reach Yennefer's location. Help her battle the Foglets then equip the mask like you would a torch and put it on.

Continue to follow Yennefer until you reach another devastated area. If you haven't already, put on the Mask of Uroboros until Yennefer moves to the next area. Take down the Foglet that attacks then equip the mask once again to watch another cut scene, then remove it when Yennefer moves on again. Equip the mask yet again when Yennefer stops again, watch a brief cut scene, then take down the Foglet that attacks.

  • Look for a body.

Follow Yennefer again and equip the mask when she tells you to, then head south after the next cut scene. Agree to be teleported by Yennefer to complete this quest on hold and start the main quest: Missing Persons.

  • Find Freya’s garden and look for Craven.

After Yennefer teleports you to the Isle of Hindarsfjall, make your way north toward the center of the village. Respond however you like during the dialogue here, then accompany Yennefer to Freya's Garden (or meet her at the gates depending on how you wish to get there). When you arrive there's a cut scene featuring a werewolf that runs away. This cut scene concludes the Missing Persons quests and begins the main quest, Nameless.

The gate in the middle provides access to more sections of the garden, while the right gate under the waterfall leads to a cave where you can find a key for the secondary quest, In Wolf's Clothing. When you're eventually ready to leave, the gate on the left offers and exit from the area.

When you're ready to continue with the quest, open the middle gate. Dive into the canal and swim through the newly opened gate.
