Google Chrome 46 (stable) has been behaving weirdly recently, it is showing black boxes on parts of a web page, this was also reported by few users in forums. The problem is not OS- specific, both Windows and Mac users are experiencing this. Restarting the browser may help for a short period of time, they may re-appear again, follow the solution below until Google fixes it.

Update May 09, 2018: Chromium team has fixed this issue in Chrome 60, the bug – -Black boxes appearing in different spots on numerous page– regressed again in Chrome 66 and they resolved it, the fix added t0 Chromium 67. So wait for Chrome 67 to arrive or use beta version of it. If you still have the problem then, please try the above instructions.

Delete an item from your history. You can delete certain parts of your history. To search for something specific, use the search bar at the top. On your computer, open Chrome. At the top right, click More. Click History History. Check the box next to each item that you want to remove from your History. At the top right, click Delete.

1. Ensure you’ve the latest Chrome version installed on your computer

2. Turn on the Hardware Acceleration option in Settings, if disabled. For that, click on Chrome menu, select Settings > Advanced Settings, Scroll down under system, check ‘Use Hardware Acceleration when available’

3. If Chrome is running with Hardware acceleration activated, see if disabling could help the issue to go away.

4. Disable all extensions in Chrome and see if the issue persists.

5. Reset Chrome Settings. Visit Menu > Settings > Advanced> Reset and Cleanup, click on ‘Reset Settings to their original defaults’

6. Next, use Chrome Cleanup tool integrated into Chrome browser: Menu > Settings > Advanced> Reset and Cleanup > Clean up computer and click ‘Find’ button.

7. Create a new Chrome Profile and see if the issue has been solved or recurring.
