We invite you to join us at the 2nd joint EACR-MRS Conference on Seed and Soil: Mechanisms of Metastasis. This is a joint conference organised by the European Association for Cancer Research (EACR) and Metastasis Research Society (MRS).

Metastasis formation is responsible for over 90% of cancer patient deaths, largely due to the fact that therapies are generally ineffective against detectable metastatic tumors. There is thus a crucial need to mechanistically understand the cellular, tissue and whole-body processes driving metastasis formation in order to identify effective therapeutic strategies. This conference will give an in-depth overview of our current knowledge on cancer, stromal and immune cell centred mechanisms promoting metastasis formation presented by world-leading researchers in the field.

Pacific Northwest Prostate Cancer Conference

Keystone Symposia: Cancer Stem Cells - Advances in Biology and Clinical Translation
13 Oct 2019 - 17 Oct 2019 • Pok Fu Lam, Hong Kong, China
Preponderant experimental and clinical evidence has demonstrated that pervasive cancer cell heterogeneity in both phenotypic presentations and functional properties exists, such that a population of cancer cells with cardinal stem cell properties (i.e., cancer stem cells) pre-exists in untreated tumors and spatiotemporally evolves during tumor progression and therapeutic interventions. Recent studies have also revealed significant phenotypic and functional plasticity in cancer cells, regulated by both genetic networks and epigenetic mechanisms. Both cancer cell heterogeneity and plasticity constitute major barriers to efficient and durable clinical treatments. Ever since the revival of the cancer stem cell research field around the turn of the century, we have made great strides in identifying and elucidating the biology of cancer stem cells in virtually all tumor systems. Significant progress has also been made in understanding how cancer stem cells interact with the cellular constituents and soluble factors in the proinflammatory and immune-suppressive tumor microenvironment. Facilitated by an explosion of technical advances in recent years, especially single-cell RNA-seq, we are achieving an unprecedented appreciation of the complexity of the cellular heterogeneity of human tumors. Significantly, novel therapeutic strategies that target cancer stem cells and cancer cell heterogeneity and plasticity are rapidly progressing to the clinical arena. This conference is organized to recapitulate these recent advances in our understanding of cancer stem cell biology and, importantly, the clinical translation of targeting cancer stem cells.

AMLD20 — A Matter of Life or Death: Mechanisms, Models and Therapeutic Opportunities
Evading programmed cell death is a major hallmark of cancer cells and contributes to tumor progression and therapy resistance. Emerging hallmarks such as metabolic plasticity, genomic instability and an immunosuppressive tumor environment allow the tumors to escape from standard cytotoxic as well as targeted therapies. Thus, understanding the underlying mechanisms in appropriate pre-clinical/clinical models is crucial for the design of more effective combination therapies to avoid treatment failure or tumor recurrence. The EACR Special Conference “A Matter of Life or Death: Mechanisms, Models and Therapeutic Opportunities” is the 5th Conference on this topic. Its objective is to cover recent and exciting developments in the field of cancer research that are crucial to our understanding of the multifaceted role of cell death in tumor initiation, progression and therapy response.
4th DNA Repair/Replication Structures and Cancer Conference
The 4th DNA Repair/Replication Structures & Cancer conference in February 2020 will focus on structural and mechanistic insights into dynamic protein, chromatin, DNA and RNA complexes acting in DNA repair and its interface with DNA replication and transcription events relevant to cancer. This fundamental information will be pivotal for the accurate interpretation of cancer clinical data, design of clinical trials, prognosis, etiology and improving the currently 1/20 low success rate for oncology drug clinical trials. Informative talks and poster sessions along with vibrant discussions will foster productive interactions and collaborations.

DDR20 — DNA Damage Responses and Cancer: Innovations from Radiobiology to Radiotherapy
30 Mar 2020 - 01 Apr 2020 • Cambridge, United Kingdom
Knowing how cells respond to DNA damage is critical to our understanding of tumourigenesis, genomic instability, and the cellular response to DNA-damaging chemotherapy and radiotherapy. DNA damage responses take place in the context of chromatin and in the midst of ongoing transcription and replication. Moreover, the metabolic environment, which is altered in tumour cells, influences these activities. In this conference, we aim to bring together researchers working on understanding DNA damage responses in the context of complex and dynamic cellular environments. This is an exciting and fast moving area, and this conference features an excellent international line-up of speakers. The programme will address the challenges of understanding this complex field and will emphases new experimental approaches for interrogating these pathways. We will also consider how recent advances can be exploited in the clinic.

MolPath20 — EACR-OECI Joint Conference: Molecular Pathology Approach to Cancer
Molecular pathology is revolutionising clinical practice in oncology and pathology paving the way for precision medicine, and has evolved into a growing research field. Knowledgeable molecular pathologists are a significant bottle neck for advancing cancer research and patient care. This meeting will provide participants with a broad view of the scope, methodologies, future directions and challenges in addition to practical approaches for molecular pathology in research and in clinical settings. The potential uses of deep learning in pathology will be discussed. The meeting will help participants to establish a network of interactions and to build bridges to foster cross disciplinary studies. We are preparing for the future and for the unknown discoveries still to come.
EACR 2020 is a four day congress dedicated to basic, preclinical and translational cancer research across a wide breadth of topics. It will highlight the latest research and bring together the cancer research community to inspire innovation and build knowledge, connections and collaborations.

Prostate Cancer also known as of the prostate is when cancer develops in the prostate, a gland in the male reproductive system. Most prostate cancers are slow growing; however, some grow relatively fast. The cancer cells may spread from the prostate to other parts of the body, particularly the bones and lymph nodes.

Scope and Importance:
It may initially cause no symptoms. In later stages it can cause difficulty urinating, blood in the urine, or pain in the pelvis, back or when urinating. A disease known as benign prostatic hyperplasia may produce similar symptoms. Other late symptoms may include feeling tired due to low levels of red blood cell. Factors that increase the risk of prostate cancer include: older age, a family history of the disease, and race. About 99% of cases occur in those over the age of 50. Having a first degree relative with the disease increases the risk 2 to 3 fold. In the United States it is more common in the African American population than the Caucasian population. Other factors that may be involved include a diet high in processed, red meat, or milk products or low in certain vegetables. Prostate cancer is diagnosed by biopsy. Medical imaging may then be done to determine if the cancer has spread to other parts of the body. Prostate cancer screening is controversial. Prostate-specific antigen testing increases cancer detection but does not decrease mortality. The United States Preventive Services Task Force recommends against screening using the PSA testing, due to the risk of over-diagnosis and over-treatment as most cancer diagnosed would remain asymptomatic. The USPSTF concludes that the potential benefits of testing do not outweigh the expected harms. While 5α-reductase inhibitors appear to decrease low grade cancer risk they do not affect high grade cancer risk and thus are not recommended for prevention. Supplementation with vitamins or minerals does not appear to affect the risk.

Market Analysis:
Health care in Turkey used to be dominated by a centralized state system run by the Ministry of Health. In 2003 the governing Justice and Development Party introduced a sweeping health reform program aimed at increasing the ratio of private to state health provision and making health care available to a larger share of the population. Information from the Turkish Statistical Institute states that 76.3 billion of Turkish Liras are being spent in healthcare, with 79.6% of funding coming from the Social Security Institute and most of the remainder (15.4%) coming from out-of-pocket payments. There are 27.954 medical institutions, 1.7 doctor for every 1000 people and 2.54 beds for 1000 people.
